This post is for followers and supporters of The Knotty Truth.

Over the years you have been faithful and true and I appreciate you. One thing I like to do during the holidays is to wake up early, stretch and do some form of exercise that makes me feel flexible, warm and re-energized. I believe in enjoying holiday treats, but enjoy them more when I know I've put in work to offset those calories. And, it helps me to relax before the stress of the day begins. Maybe even take time to journal what you love to do and how you can transform that love into a business or ministry opportunity.

If your 2017 has been anything like mine, it's been stressful is an understatement! So, please enjoy your family and friends this holiday season and remember to take time out for yourself. Breath, relax, release. I look forward to doing more of what I love in 2018, I wish you the best as well.

To celebrate your support, I'm offering The Knotty Truth Lock Manual and The Knotty Truth Managing Ti…

FAKE Blog Alert

There is a FAKE Knotty Truth Blog on Tumbler that steals content from this brand and posts similar content, with a distasteful edge.

Please know the battle continues for the naps; however, I'm reformulating how I release content. I've had enough of it.

Keep it Knotty

The Beginning of The End

There's been a lot of 'false' starts to ending this blog. The first round of this blog began in 2006, along with my first braidlock journey and it was the Locked - n - Loaded blog. There was another version: The Knotty Truth Blog and a few in between (as I deleted and archived old posts, sorry) to now the Professional & Locked Blog.

Since 2006 I've shared my hair experiences one way or another. I've also shared my evolution as an author of three natural hair care books under The Knotty Truth Series. Now it's time to come to an end, for real. The stats say there have been 12,913 views since 2006. I am humble and say thank you. As I look forward, I now must commit towards putting my energies forward and close out the blog.

If anyone is out there listening, watching, reading...

Keep it Knotty!

MIssionAccomplished: Sisterlocks 4Years

Oh my Gosh....in ALL my years, I never missed a Lockaversary-but here I am-I forgot! I was rolling steady towards my birthday, then realized, if I'm hours away from my birthday, then I missed my Lockversary!!!! This post is dedicated to my 4 year journey with Sisterlocks the DIY way! For all those naysayers that said it could not be done DIY-been doing the dern thing strong since after install day/2013. These babies were Sisterlock - consultant installed over 2 days July 2013. They are standard sized and took about 22 hours to install. I was scared to death the first 2 months tightening myself because they were so very slippery but I did it! I used a plastic sewing needle but now stick with my 2.5 inch hairpin-my tool of preference.

Thoughts:
Stick with the tool your hand is the most comfortable with! Period! Of course, make sure it fits the size of your locks etc...but go with common sense. If you can't position and hold the tool well, you cannot maintain your locks properly. …

Professional & Locked: Legislation and Natural Hair In Ohio

Did ya know? In 2016, Iowa, Nebraska and Kentucky deregulated hair braiding, freeing braiders from burdensome cosmetology laws?

So, this happened, just as states like Florida, George and Alabama shut down access, making it legal to discriminate against folks with locks in their hair, Ohio loosens beauty restrictions. From a 1500 hour Cosmetology license to a 450 hour Natural Hair Care License, to now a 75 hour Boutique Certification in braiding, threading or shampooing ** services can be offered within a salon setting that is board approved. This is HUGE! Some argue it's not fair, others feel that this opportunity will open up natural hair services, increasing entrepreneurial opportunities; others are limited due to shampoo restrictions.

What do I feel? All is fair in love and war. I reflect on the days I would pop up to antagonize the OH State Cosmetology Board challenging their restrictive laws. I saw them pass fees over fees over fees against their own customer base to the point …

Why did you decide to lock your hair? I've been wanting to lock my hair since 2005 and had a consultation with someone in East Columbus but got scared at the commitment to a 'permanent style'. After marriage and becoming pregnant back to back, my focus left myself and a simple wash and go was the preference. As the children got older, I remembered that I've some things I wanted for mysel…

Professional & Locked in the Military? Yes! Finally!

January 2017 Professional & Locked : Jennifer Adams, Photographer, Business Owner, Entrepreneur,

So many times, virgins to the art of locking do NOT understand the versatility and range of lock installations that are installed. These installations can result in very earthy, freeform, organic and even professional looking locks. For those concerned about locs in the workplace, you will enjoy our featured models who share their professional, money earning lifestyles WITH locks. We share a Business Owners Perspective  from Ohio - a state NOT impacted by the US District 11 ruling. If you agree that Jennifer is holding it down, classy and professional, please let her know and leave a comment! 1) Why did you decide to lock your hair?
I, like many other little brown girls growing up in the 80's, 90's experienced every hair style trend known to date. I knew the pain of corn rows, the trauma of the hot comb, the stain of the cheri curl and devotion to the creamy crack. As, an adult I spent way too much time in salons where I continuously donated my time to a hair dryer. I later opt…
